Award-winning gospel singer Tope Alabi recently shared the divine journey that led to her marriage with music producer Soji Alabi. In a heartfelt interview, she recounted how their love story unfolded through a series of unexpected events none of which she planned, but all of which she believes were guided by God. Tope received ₦200,000 from Highwaves Video Mart to record an album. She headed straight to Soji Alabi’s studio, only to learn he no longer worked there and no one knew where he had gone. Determined to deliver the project, she moved to another studio owned by Soji’s former boss, confident they could replicate his sound.
After completing the album, she submitted it to Highwaves only to face rejection. The company criticized the sound quality, saying it didn’t meet the standard they expected from her. Disappointed but still determined, Tope returned to Soji’s old studio to ask for his home address. Instead, she found him there.
A Divine Connection Sparks
Tope explained her situation, and Soji immediately stepped in to help. Despite the original ₦200,000 budget, he asked if she could raise just ₦20,000. When she admitted she had nothing, they worked out the project with only ₦10,000.
At that point, their relationship remained strictly professional. Tope was living with an abusive partner and had no romantic involvement with Soji. “I was already living with my ex-partner, who physically abused me at will, but Soji was just a working acquaintance,” she recalled.
From Friendship to Forever
After leaving her abusive relationship, Tope leaned on Soji for emotional support. He took her out for movies, treated her to dinners, and cared for her daughter. Their friendship deepened, and within a year and a half, they tied the knot.
Now, nearly 25 years later, Tope describes their marriage as one built on faith, trust, and divine timing. “God orchestrated it,” she said, reflecting on how a failed project and a chance meeting led to a love that has endured for decades.
