Sola Kosoko: Balancing Stardom, Business, and Family in Nollywood

Trending News

Nollywood actress and producer Sola Kosoko Abina has shared heartfelt insights into the realities of juggling an acting career with entrepreneurship and motherhood. In a recent interview, she described the experience as “extremely challenging,” citing the unpredictable nature of film production and the emotional toll it can take on personal and professional life.

Kosoko, daughter of veteran actor Jide Kosoko, has built a respected career in Nigerian cinema. Yet, behind the glamour, she admits that acting leaves little room for other ventures. “Acting doesn’t leave much room for other ventures,” she said. “At one point, I had a boutique where I sold clothes, bags, and jewellery, but it didn’t last. The job demands so much time, and the only way to make it work is to have a competent and trustworthy person to manage the business while you are on set”.

Her experience reflects a broader challenge faced by many creatives in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. The long hours, frequent travel, and intense emotional demands of acting often clash with the consistency required to run a business. Kosoko’s boutique venture, though promising, couldn’t survive the strain of her filming schedule.

The Role of Family Support

Beyond business, Kosoko also spoke about the importance of family support, especially from her husband. “If you have an understanding husband who appreciates your profession, it becomes much easier,” she said. “I met my husband even before I became very popular, so he understands my job very well”.

A Familiar Struggle in Nollywood

Kosoko’s reflections resonate with many Nollywood stars who attempt to diversify their income through fashion, beauty, or hospitality ventures. While some succeed, others struggle to maintain momentum due to the erratic nature of film work. Her honesty adds depth to the conversation around celebrity entrepreneurship and the hidden costs of creative careers.

As Nollywood continues to grow globally, stories like Kosoko’s remind us that behind every red carpet moment is a complex balancing act. Her journey is one of resilience, adaptation, and the quiet strength of those who support her from behind the scenes.
