If there’s  any movie that shaped Nollywood into what it is today, it’s the Legendary 1992 classic  “Living in Bondage”. This amazing movie was produced by okechukwu ogunjiofor.

This film didn’t just entertain viewers, but it shook Nigerian audience with daring storyline.

It exposed some dark paths of ill gotten wealth,its consequences and the disadvantages it brings.

It instilled fear in the hearts of many by discouraging wrong paths to wealth.

Technically, it made alot of nigerians to respect their jobs, and treat it with dignity as wealth gotten too fast is liable to bring disaster at the end.

The story line has always been seen to be a unique message to everyone. Even up till today, it’s peices has been used to mould more touching stories.

Summary

This movie featured a young man called Andy okeke  who was desperate to escape from the shackles of poverty into abundance of wealth with speed. Of course his despiracy led him into a secret cult that promised him quick success and wealth.

Here’s the twist!

He needed to sacrifice his lovely innocent wife in exchange for his desires.

Driven by despiracy,  he went ahead to give up his wife for sacrifice through death. Of course, he got the wealth he asked for immediately, as his success was faster than expected.

Soon, the reality sets in. He was haunted by guilt, series of frustrating nightmares ,and  the ghost of his murdered wife.

Wealth at that point felt meaningless, irrelevant and not worth rushing for. His peace was taken, his sanity destroyed.

He needed a way out.

Andy’s cry  for deliverance led Nollywood to its memorable redemption scene that can never be forgotten.

Filled with suspense and moral lessons ,”Living in Bondage ” remains a timeless warning about the dangerous pursuit for wealth at all cost.

If you’re a fan of classic Nollywood movies, this is the film you should revisit.
