Nollywood Producers Summit: A Step Towards Global Recognition

Trending News

The inaugural Nollywood Producers’ Summit marked a significant milestone in Nigeria’s film industry, bringing together industry leaders, government representatives, and global partners to empower Nigerian producers with the tools and collaborations needed to conquer the global stage.

Authenticity and Originality

According to Amb. (Dr.) Queen Blessing Ebigieson, National President of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), the summit’s theme, “Positioning the Nollywood Producer for Success: Creating Authentic Content in a Digital World,” serves as a reminder that producers should prioritise meaningful content over mere profit-driven motives. “Our streets are full of untold stories. Why should we borrow from others when we can tell our own?” she emphasised.

Global Reach and Partnerships

Julie P. McKay, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, highlighted Nollywood’s expanding global reach, particularly among American audiences. “Nollywood has evolved into a global phenomenon,” she stated, citing the international success of “The Black Book” on Netflix. McKay added that digital platforms present vast opportunities, but also require Nollywood to innovate, adapt, and collaborate strategically.

Professionalism and Ethics

Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board, stressed the importance of professionalism and ethics in the industry. “In today’s digital landscape, anyone can create content, but maintaining standards sets professionals apart,” he said. He advised producers to utilise data-driven narratives, invest in skill development, and adopt multi-platform distribution strategies.

A New Era for Nollywood

The Nollywood Producers’ Summit underscored the industry’s strengths: authentic Nigerian narratives, digital savvy, strategic partnerships, and unwavering professionalism. Dr. Ebigieson hailed the event’s success in bringing producers together, saying, “This inaugural summit demonstrates what we can achieve through unity.” With more editions on the horizon, the summit is poised to drive Nigeria’s film industry forward.
