Veteran actress and activist Kate Henshaw has voiced her disappointment with Nigeria’s progress, criticizing the nation’s leadership on a significant milestone – 26 years of uninterrupted democracy.
On Channels Television’s Democracy Day special, Kate Henshaw expressed frustration over the current state of the country, questioning the tangible benefits of democracy for ordinary citizens.

“There is no middle class and we cannot tell any more lies to ourselves,” she asserted.
The actress highlighted that after over 20 years of democratic governance, Nigerians still face unbearable challenges, including rampant insecurity, poverty, and the collapse of essential sectors.
“Everything around us is crumbling and Nigerians are barely holding on by the skin of their teeth. We cannot keep quiet. There must be justice, equity, and security for the people for their lives and property.”
Amidst her concerns, Henshaw urged Nigerians to remain hopeful . She emphasised the need for active participation and demanding accountability from leaders.
“But I still hold on to hope that we will have a country to live in, for our children — something they can build on.”

Kate Henshaw adds her voice to a growing list of Nigerian celebrities and public figures, including rapper Falz , who recently expressed that Nigeria has regressed under president Tinubu’s leadership.

He said, “I made the statement about not being sure I’d raise my kids in Nigeria because of the current state of affairs. More than anything, it goes without saying that we’ve moved backwards. There is much progress that has been recorded. “
