Movies for the month

“Apple Cider Vinegar” is a 2025 Netflix limited series that looks into the rise and fall of a wellness empire built on deception. The narrative is inspired by the true story of Belle Gibson, an Australian wellness influencer who falsely claimed to have cured her terminal brain cancer through natural remedies, leading to widespread acclaim and financial success.

Set during the early days of Instagram, the series follows two young women who advocate for wellness remedies to cure life-threatening illnesses. Their journey unravels as they unknowingly—and knowingly—mislead the world, leading to the creation of a successful app and book, “The Whole Pantry.” However, their empire begins to crumble when investigations reveal the truth behind their claims.

Cast: Alycia Debnam-Carey, Mina Tander, Jördis Triebel, Maxim Mehmet, Kento Nagayama, Shunya Shiraishi.

The series has gained attention for its respresentation of the wellness industry’s darker side. Critics have noted its captivating narrative and strong performances, particularly by Alycia Debnam-Carey. However, some reviews suggest that the series could dig deeper into the psychological aspects of the characters.

“Apple Cider Vinegar” is available for streaming exclusively on Netflix.
