Mayu Matsuoka and Riisa Naka to Star in Upcoming Netflix Film ‘Plastic Beauty’

The world of plastic surgery is about to become even more interesting with the announcement that Mayu Matsuoka and Riisa Naka will be starring in the upcoming Netflix series “Plastic Beauty”. This Japanese live-action drama promises to explore the complex and often provocative world of aesthetic surgery.

Mayu Matsuoka, known for her standout performances in films like “Shoplifters” and “Tremble All You Want”, and Riisa Naka, recognised for her roles in “Alice in Borderland” and “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time”, are set to bring their unique styles to the series. Matsuoka will play Fumi Numata, a gifted surgeon forced to transition from general surgery to aesthetics. At the same time, Naka will portray Rin Tohyama, a celebrity cosmetic surgeon who sees beauty as a form of salvation.

 

The series boasts an impressive creative team, with Junya Ikegami (“The Blood of Wolves”, “The Queen of Villains”) penning the screenplay and Yuki Saito (“Unmet: A Neurosurgeon’s Diary”) at the helm as director. K2 Pictures is producing the series, with Harue Miyake and Katsuhito Motegi serving as producers, and Shinichi Kudo overseeing development. Significantly, this team has previously collaborated on Netflix series that tackle complex and provocative subjects, such as “The Naked Director” and “Tokyo Swindlers”.

Building on this theme, Shinichi Takahashi, Director, Live Action Creative for Japan at Netflix, “What is beauty?  That fundamental question became the starting point for Plastic Beauty.” The series promises to explore the complexities and realities of the plastic surgery industry, delving into the personal and universal pursuit of beauty.

Additionally, Director Yuki Saito aims to shed light on the dual nature of the plastic surgery world, exploring both its appealing and darker aspects. With Mayu Matsuoka and Riisa Naka’s contrasting portrayals, Saito hopes to capture the subtle emotional nuances between the two leads, creating a deeply resonant viewing experience that will strike a chord with audiences.

 

This series will challenge viewers to think about the nature of beauty and the lengths people will go to achieve it, making “Plastic Beauty” a thought-provoking and captivating watch.
