Nollywood actress an filmmaker Laide Bakare has raised concerns over the lack of appreciation for those working in the industry by those in leadership positions.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, the actress who is also Senior Special Assistant to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for Entertainments, Arts, Culture, and Tourism emphasized that entertainment still an underused resource for driving economic growth.
In her words, “We conducted our own research and discovered that the problem stems from those at the top. They tend to underrate the role of entertainment in national development. That is why we are coming up with fresh ideas and programmes to change that narrative.”
Continuing the conversation, the actress referred to herself as the pioneer in the political world, expressing her dedication and commitment to connecting entertainment with governance.
“I am a game changer, and I’m changing the game in politics. Entertainment should never be downplayed, especially given its economic value and the opportunities it presents,” she said.
Looking back on Nollywood’s development over the years, Bakare expressed her contentment with the industry’s present condition.
“It feels good and fulfilling. Years ago, when we were asked where we saw ourselves in five to eight years, this was the vision. It’s happening now, and I’m really thankful,” she remarked.
