Nollywood actor Gideon Okeke has sparked fresh debate online after publicly calling out Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Rema, accusing them of not doing enough to promote Nollywood and Nigerian films despite their massive global influence.
The outspoken actor made the comments in a video and a series of Instagram posts, where he expressed frustration over what he described as a one-sided relationship between Nigeria’s music and film industries.

He argued that Afrobeats stars enjoy worldwide visibility, international media attention, and millions of followers across social platforms — power he believes could significantly boost Nollywood if used intentionally.
“You people have platforms that can change narratives instantly,” Gideon suggested, questioning why Nigerian films and actors rarely get public shout-outs from top musicians.
