Funke Akindele, the popular Nigerian actress and producer, has made an official announcement about her intent to return to politics ahead of the 2027 elections. This follows her previous political experience as the deputy governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State during the 2023 elections, where she ran alongside Abdul-Azeez Adediran. Their ticket was ultimately defeated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

In a recent interview on the inaugural live edition of the ‘WithChude’ podcast, Akindele shared her passion for public service and her reasons for entering politics. She expressed a desire to give back and support her community, stating, “I need to support. I need to give back. That’s why I went into politics.” She also discussed the personal growth and insights she gained from her initial political foray, noting how it helped her become more informed about the country and its governance. Her commitment to continuous learning and boldness in public service were central themes in the conversation.

Although Akindele did not specify which position she intends to contest in the upcoming elections, her renewed political ambition signals her continued dedication to contributing to the development of Nigeria’s governance.

Do you think her experience in the 2023 elections will influence her approach for 2027?
