Movies for the month

Dark Nuns is a 2025 South Korean horror film that premiered in Korea on January 24 before hitting U.S theatres on February 7. It is widely available on all digital platforms in the US market.

The story centres on two nuns, Sister Yunia (Song Hye-kyo) and Sister Michaela (Jeon Yeo-been), who face an impossible choice. When a young boy is possessed by an evil spirit, these women decide to perform an exorcism even though the Catholic Church has strictly forbidden them to do so.

The movie “Dark Nuns” tackles themes of conflict between following rules and doing what’s right, female empowerment through the nuns taking action themselves, and sacrifice as they risk their careers and eternal souls to save a possessed child.

“Dark Nuns” features an ensemble cast, including Song Hye-kyo as Sister Junia and Jeon Yeo-been as Sister Michaela, two nuns who defy the Catholic Church to perform an exorcism on a possessed child. They are joined by Lee Jin-wook as Father Paolo, a priest and psychiatrist, and Moon Woo-jin as Hee-joon, the young boy possessed by an evil spirit.

Other notable cast members include Huh Joon-ho as Father Andreas, Gang Dong-won in a cameo appearance as Deacon Choi, and Kim Kuk-hee as Hyo-won, a shaman who helps Sister Junia. The talented cast brings depth and complexity to the story of faith, morality, and sacrifice.

Dark Nuns delivers both genuine chills and thoughtful storytelling. If you want horror that respects your intelligence while still giving you a good fright, this Korean thriller is worth your time.
