It is a sad time for BBNaija 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephine Otabor, also known as Phyna as she mourns the untimely death of her sister, Ruth Otabor.Ruth tragically passed away on August 31, 2025, after suffering severe injuries from a road accident involving a Dangote truck earlier in the month.
On August 13, 2025, Ruth was hit by a Dangote Group truck near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. The accident left her severely injured, and doctors had to amputate her left leg in an effort to save her life. Despite receiving urgent medical care, her health continued to deteriorate. Sadly, she was confirmed dead at 6:30 am on August 31, 2025.
Family’s Statement
In a statement released by Eko Solicitors & Advocates and shared on Phyna’s Instagram page, the family announced:
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025, at about 06:30 Hrs.”
The family has requested privacy as they grieve and promised to share details about funeral arrangements in due course.
Dangote Group’s Reaction
Reacting to the incident, Dangote Group expressed condolences to the Otabor family. The company revealed that it had been supporting Ruth’s medical treatment and had even arranged for her transfer to India for advanced care.
Unfortunately, despite all efforts, Ruth could not survive.
“We deeply regret the loss of Miss Ruth Otabor and extend our heartfelt condolences to the Otabor family. Our prayers are with them during this difficult time.”
