Comedian Ayo Makun, widely known as AY, has confirmed that he was invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following an incident at a social event where both local and foreign currencies were publicly sprayed. This act is a violation of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s regulations on currency mutilation.
In a statement posted on his Instagram, AY expressed his gratitude to the EFCC for their understanding and for granting him a pardon after verifying that the funds involved were not connected to illegal activities. He acknowledged the cultural importance of money spraying at Nigerian celebrations but stressed that such actions can have legal repercussions under Nigerian law.
Reflecting on the experience, AY described it as an important lesson and promised to use his platform to educate the public about the proper handling of Nigeria’s national currency.
