David Weil, the mastermind behind the hit series Hunters and Invasion, is set to make his feature film directing debut with Tyrant. This project originated from a preemptive spec deal secured by Amazon MGM Studios for his script.

Tyrant dives into the intense world of fine dining, delivering a suspenseful thriller akin to Whiplash. With production moving quickly, the project is now gearing up for casting. The film is based on a story by Weil and Cody Behan, and Weil wrote the script. He’ll also produce with his producing partner Natalie Laine Williams.

The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona will oversee production as producers. This partnership follows their recent collaborations with Weil, including setting up the spec script Supermax at Miramax and bringing Weil on board to work on the Netflix sci-fi thriller Out There.

With Tyrant, Weil expands his creative portfolio, which includes adapting a film about Wall Street Journal’s Evan Gershkovich for United Artists and working on Netflix’s Extraction 3 starring Chris Hemsworth. His notable credits also include creating the series Hunters and Solos, as well as co-creating Invasion, which recently wrapped its third season.

As Tyrant gears up for production, fans of David Weil’s work can expect more exciting projects from him in the future. With his unique blend of suspense and intrigue, Weil is sure to make a lasting impact on the world of film and television.
