Amazon Prime Video has announced that “Fallout” will return for its second season this December, along with new photos that give viewers their first look at the show’s version of New Vegas, an important location from the popular video game franchise.
Set two centuries after the apocalypse, the series follows shelter residents who are forced to leave their comfortable underground homes and face the outside world. According to the official summary, they discover a reality that is “incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent.”
The series stars Ella Purnell as Lucy, a hopeful vault resident who must go to the surface world to save her father. Walton Goggins plays the Ghoul, a bounty hunter who changed due to radiation and has lived through the 200 years since the Great War.
The cast also features Aaron Moten, Moisés Arias, Kyle MacLachlan, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner, Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan and Xelia Mendes-Jones. For the second season, Macaulay Culkin has joined the show.
The first season of “Fallout” debuted in April 2024 and received strong reviews, earning a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Variety’s review praised how the creators Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet “wisely chose to avoid a straight adaptation” of the video games, instead creating “an original story within the game universe,” noting that “video game adaptations have produced a mixed bag.”
The season earned several Emmy nominations, including best drama series, best drama actor for Goggins, and best drama writing for Wagner and Robertson-Dworet, and won the award for music supervision.
Wagner and Robertson-Dworet run the show and executive produce with Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy, Athena Wickham, Todd Howard and James Altman. Amazon, MGM Studios, and Kilter Films make the series along with Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks.
Fallout Season 2 premieres December 2024 on Amazon Prime Video. Check out the first look photos below showcasing the series’ take on New Vegas.
