American actress Aubrey Plaza, best known for her deadpan role as April Ludgate in Parks and Recreation, is stepping into dramatic territory. Plaza will star as and produce a biopic about Heidi Fleiss, the notorious ‘Hollywood Madam.’
Following news of her producer and starring role in the film, Plaza called Heidi Fleiss an “ultimate badass icon” she relates to on a spiritual level.
The dark comedy will be directed by Leah Rachel (Netflix’s Chambers) in her directorial debut. Rachel Sennott (Shiva Baby, Bottoms) co-wrote the script with Rachel and Travis Jackson. Production begins in Los Angeles this year, with Jessamine Burgum and Kara Durrett producing for Pinky Promise alongside Plaza’s Evil Hag.
Heidi Fleiss ran a high-end prostitution ring serving LA’s wealthy elite, including Hollywood figures, until her 1993 arrest on pandering charges. The biopic follows her final days before trial as she attempts to use her powerful connections and an ambitious writer named Jaclyn to escape conviction.
Filming is set to begin in Los Angeles later this year.
