Coming Soon

Freida Pinto, known for her roles in Slumdog Millionaire and Mr. Malcolm’s List, has been cast as the lead in Netflix’s drama series Unaccustomed Earth. The series, which will have 8 episodes, is executive produced by John Wells (The Pitt, Shameless). Pinto will portray Parul Chaudhury in the series created by showrunner, writer, and executive producer Madhuri Shekar (3 Body Problem, The Sever’s).

Unaccustomed Earth, inspired by Jhumpa Lahiri’s short story collection of the same name, is a dramatic series that’s epic, dramatic, and culturally rich. It explores the lives of a close-knit Indian American community as they navigate themes of love, desire, and belonging. With nuanced storytelling, passion, and memorable characters, the series takes viewers into the elite and somewhat insular Indian-American community in Cambridge, MA.

It follows a forbidden romance between a committed wife and a love from her past comes to light, sparking a scandalous affair. This ignites new conflicts and redraws battle lines within this tightly connected immigrant community.

John Wells is an executive producer on the show through John Wells Productions’ deal with Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind the series. Other executive producers include Ritesh Batra, Jhumpa Lahiri, Nisha Ganatra, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow, and Celia Costas. Ritesh Batra is also directing the first two episodes (101 and 102).
