American actress Lili Reinhart, recognized for playing Betty Cooper in “Riverdale”, is set to star in and executive produce the romantic comedy “The Love Hypothesis”. Based on Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling book, the project is headed to Amazon, MGM Studios, and MRC. This comes after Reinhart won the Best Actress Award at Series Mania for her role in “Hal & Harper”.
In this romantic comedy, biology PhD student Olive Smith and Dr. Adam Carlsen, a charismatic yet tough professor with a reputation as a “tyrant,” start a pretend relationship. As they do, their carefully planned theories about love begin to unravel into chaos.
Ali Hazelwood’s novel, published in 2021 by Berkley (Penguin Random House), remained on the New York Times bestseller list for 10 months and gained international popularity in 40 countries. Originally picked up for publication by editor Sarah Blumenstock at Berkley, the book also earned the title of Best Romance of the Year by Amazon. Hazelwood has written other notable titles, including Problematic Summer Romance, Deep End, and Bride.
The Love Hypothesis is being directed by Claire Scanlon (Set It Up), based on a script written by Sarah Rothschild (The Sleepover). Production is led by Elizabeth Cantillon (The Girl in the Spider’s Web, Charlie’s Angels), with Lili Reinhart, Catherine Hagedorn, and Ali Hazelwood serving as executive producers.
