Idris Elba is a British actor and producer who is well known in the entertainment industry for his versatile performances in film and television, including hits like Luther, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor. Recently, he opened up about the challenges of aging, especially after hitting his 50s.

During a conversation on Amy Poehler’s podcast “Good Hang”, Idris Elba shared his experiences with aging, revealing that while he has gained wisdom and confidence in his 50s, his body is no longer as cooperative. Despite prioritizing his health, Elba noted that his body has become more resistant, with common issues like decreased muscle strength, slower metabolism, and joint pain becoming more prevalent. Poehler, 53, agreed, humorously highlighting the challenges of everyday tasks, like getting out of bed, which can now lead to injuries. The two shared a laugh about the difficulties of simple actions like walking or squatting, which have become more complicated with age.

Idris Elba also shared that aging has brought him emotional and mental clarity, allowing him to approach life with greater confidence and discernment. As he put it, “In my 30s and 40s, I was easily swayed, but now in my 50s, I’ve developed a stronger sense of self. I’m no longer easily influenced, and I’m more intentional about the company I keep and the choices I make.
