Monalisa Ayobami Stephen, the Nigerian plus-size model, Nollywood actress, and body positivity advocate, has sadly passed away at the age of 33. She died on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Lagos, due to complications from low blood sugar and internal bleeding. Her immediate younger sister confirmed her passing, which was publicly announced on Wednesday, May 14 by Seun Oloketuyi, CEO of Best of Nollywood, via Instagram.

Monalisa Stephen was widely known for her bold presence in Nollywood and her advocacy beyond the screen. Notable film appearances include: Mami Wata (2023), Breaded Life (2021). She also gained recognition for being unapologetically herself and encouraging others to embrace their identity, irrespective of societal pressures.

Monalisa used her platform to champion body positivity and self-love, speak openly about mental health struggles and challenge narrow societal beauty standards.
