War Between the Land and the Sea (2025) is a riveting British science fiction drama miniseries. it expands the Doctor Who universe with a bold new story focused on Earth’s response to an unprecedented threat.

Created and showrun by Russell T. Davies, this five-part series aired on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in December 2025.  with a wider international streaming release on Disney+ slated for 2026.
The plot centers on UNIT (Unified Intelligence Taskforce) as an ancient ocean-dwelling species known as the Homo Aqua.  Historically referred to as Sea Devils in Doctor Who lore, emerges from the deep and reveals itself to humanity.

What begins as mysterious contact quickly escalates into a global crisis.  Therefore, forcing governments and military forces to confront a potential war between land and sea.
    At the heart of the series is Barclay Pierre-Dupont (Russell Tovey), a junior UNIT operative unexpectedly thrust into diplomatic and leadership roles as humanity negotiates.

Alongside him is Salt (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), a Homo Aqua ambassador whose presence challenges human assumptions.                                                                           In Addition, it also underscores the show’s deeper commentary on environmental damage, interspecies communication, and global cooperation.
However, supporting characters include returning Doctor Who universe favorites like Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave). Adding continuity and emotional weight to the narrative.

Furthermore, War between the land and sea has attract Critics and viewers which have offered mixed reactions, praised the ambitious world-building and environmental themes while noted uneven pacing and character development in some arcs.
