Farewell to a Legend: Dharmendra Dies at 89

The world of cinema bows its head in sorrow as Dharmendra — Bollywood’s beloved “He-Man” — has passed away at the age of 89. The veteran actor died on the morning of 24 November 2025 at his Mumbai residence, after a brief illness. His departure marks the end of an era for Indian cinema.

A Life Lived for Cinema

Born in a small village in Ludhiana, Punjab, Dharmendra’s journey in films began in 1960 with his debut in Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. Over more than six decades, he appeared in over 300 films, delivering unforgettable performances across genres — from romance to action to comedy.
Some of his most iconic roles came in films like Sholay, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Phool Aur Patthar, Yaadon Ki Baarat, Chupke Chupke, and many more.
In 2012, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan. one of India’s highest civilian awards.  A fitting tribute to his contribution to the art.

Final Days & Goodbye

Dharmendra had been hospitalized in Mumbai’s after suffering respiratory issues. Though he was discharged and believed to be recovering, his health deteriorated — culminating in his passing.
His final rites took place at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu, Mumbai. Drawing mourners from across Bollywood, industry colleagues, friends and fans alike.

Legacy That Will Live On

Dharmendra’s screen presence — equal parts charisma, vulnerability and strength — shaped the definition of the Bollywood hero for generations. He reinvented himself over decades, transitioning from action-hero roles to lighter and more mature characters, even in later years.
More than just a star. He was a patriarch of a film family.

Survived by his wives, his children, and grandchildren. And a bridge between old-school Bollywood and the new age.
As tributes pour in from fans and industry legends worldwide, the message is clear: Dharmendra’s flame may have dimmed, but his legacy will burn forever. in films, in hearts, and in cinematic history
